Minor insight into mice and men

by "Michael Koblic" <mkoblic@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Apr 27, 2008 at 08:12 PM

In my previous post I wondered about the temperatures needed to screw up a
magnet.

Today I got further insight into what temperatures are achieved by a
simple
disk sander: I soldered together a small piece of 5/16 key stock to the 2"

washer used in the previous post. As the stock piece was too long and need

about 2 mm off to fit, I thought the best way to do it would be by sanding

it off on my disk sander. Lo and behold, the temperature got up high
enough
to melt the solder...Dipping in water periodically notwithstanding!

Those Brits amongst you who are old enough may recognize this as a Hamlet
moment.
