Don't

There was a vote to split the newsgroup into 2 parts. One group was
for the split and the other opposed. A few member of the opposed were
offering stamps and outright bribes to not split the group. ****ll
voting... they were called on it and didn't like it. Nasty swear
words and even pseudo threats were common.
The only point to be made here, if there is any point, is that some of
the trolls we keep seeing are of that crowd or were part of that crowd
- at least opposition sympathizers.
The obvious response to your message would be to "give us names" so we
can avoid them. Can't do that, because they morph into someone else
after they're found out. Digging up the names would do no justice to
the relative peace around here at this time.
On the other hand, pointing out newly posted trollisms as being from
the old school will keep reminding us of why we split the newsgroup up
in the first place.
We have seen reduction in pseudo moderators, or wannabe's.
We have seen reduction in blatant commercial messages.
We have seen reduction in the infighting of that time period.
We have seen some good people leave and that was the biggest regret.
We have seen some good people pass on, but not because of the group!
We have seen a certain core of people who have stuck it out, through
thick and thin and this newsgroup has started to offer something
again, like it once did. We survived through humor, sup****t (on and
off-line) and finally gaining some trust amongst us. Other newsgroups
are not as fortunate.
Although not 100% accurate, self-evident or for true (as Bugs Bunny
would say), a few of us here can recognize some of the older trolls.
What I was attempting to do was distinguish between the hit and run
troll and the long-term, albeit something-deficient master trolls.
One will say - "a troll is a troll". True, in one sense. But, when
good folks here try to get into a conversation with one of our
resident ne'er-do-well trolls, it may save some bandwidth (eventually)
and the loss of that person to those trolls.
Yes, of course don't feed the trolls because they get big and come
back twice as nasty. Yes, yes... heard it all before. Battled many
a troll. Posted a few too many messages.
Some people also thought the SNA dialogs to be over the top, annoying
and some even liked them. We took the worst of the postal systems,
some of the crap that was dished out here and added a big sprinkle of
humor to it all. In an indirect sense, this may have captured a few
thoughts along the way and interested a few people to stick around,
whether for water activated or self-adhesive fun. :^)
Also, who am I to try to stop anyone's misery when consulting with
said troll here? Nobody - I'm no body in the grand scheme of things.
I'd just not like to see our new friends leave.
YMMV...
