It is worthy of consideration that if every stamp had been socked on
the nose and fitted the definition perfectly it would defeat the job
of the stamp in tying the cover.
SOTN seems only useful for stamps off cover.

Some of the nicest SOTN can be evidenced on Hungary 1920-1940
the cancellers were fine and nicely designed, the stamps large enough
to accept them. There is some oil seepage evident but in the main,
nice clear precise impressions.
