Ralph, I'm not sure that I understand you. Were much more stamps issued
for 
the mentioned new set then for the first one?

I'm asking this because, due to the inflation of the US currency, which 
means also the (nominal) increasing of the income, the stamps shouldn't be

sooo much more expensive than previously. Or am I wrong?

I know that I've neglected here that the postal rates increase faster then

the inflation, but nevertheless IMHO only this couldn't be the main reason

for why the country collecting is abandoned by the collectors (the reasons

being rather the inflation of the total number of issues, and the reduced 
interest of youngsters for stamp collecting, or vice-versa :).
