Rodney:
This was the famous Koro "hoard" of Yemen stamps. It was the subject
of
a spectacular seizure by Scotland Yard and a trial that played out in
the
world press. In 1997 it was auctioned off.
Actually, it was 5.5 tons (~14 million stamps) of stamps (Yemen
Kingdom).
It was sold as ONE lot, much to the chagrin of collectors.
The auctioneers' estimated price was 25 thousand to 30 thousand
pounds
sterling (USD $41,500 - $50,000) and sold for USD $41,095. (or
about
3.4 stamps for one cent)
