A great reason to phase in dollar coins and stop printing $1 bills.  But
the popular press is too stupid to talk about this alternative.

They say that changes to paper bills could cost billions to redesign
vending machines.  Yet a large ****tion of US installed vending machines
are for small ticket items where $1 is usually the largest currency
inserted.  And many of these machines already have installed dollar coin
mechanisms.  The vending machine industry should be all over this.
