Hello folks,
I have a very rare book up for auction on Ebay item number
220202524999
See if you can find one for sale anywhere on the net ISBN: 0948285060
Aurora Australis
1st Edition Facsimile 1986 First public edition. Edited by Ernest H.
Shackleton.
The original book was the first ever book published in Antarctica,
written printed and published in 1908.
The book was created during the winter months of the 1907- 1909
expedition by the British Antarctic expedition team to alleviate
boredom.
They borrowed a printing press to take with them and completed the
task in 1908, the covers of the book were made from wooden boards
made
from their storage crates.
Opinions vary on the original number of copies from 70 to 100, about
60 of which have been accounted for being intended for the team
members, dignitaries etc.
The only reference of a sale of this book that I have found was in
New
Jersey last month. I will be surprised and interested if you can find
another for sale
I Have a look at http://www.antarctic-circle.org/auctions.htm
and you
will find the following lot number.
722. Aurora Australis, 1986 est 700-900 selling price in italics was
$2,360
If this form of advertising is considered inappropriate in this group
then I apologise and it will not happen again, hopefully it will be
of
interest to some member and of course help towards a sensible price
for the book.
Thanks for your time in reading this.
