Hi,
I have this pretty and well made oriental box, but I know very little
about it. I've checked images.google.com for all key word combos, and
can't find anything like it.
I'd really like to know what it's made of, and also what its purpose
was.
I'll try to get a photo up asap, but in the mean time here's a
description;
very dark, almost black, wood (except inlay on lid, as below)
44cm long, 8cm deep and 7cm high
outside walls finely carved in a repeating geometric pattern
4 'feet', so it's slightly off the ground
lid slides off
top of lid is a scene of tree, clouds, bird etc - made from a
combination of stone, mother of pearl, and the tree parts look like
they're made from the same wood as the lid itself. The inlay covers
pretty much the whole lid.
There's no *clear* ID marking on/in the box. There is a marking inside
the lid - a very small oval joining a small circle... but... I can't
tell if it's a flaw in the wood or deliberate.
thanks
