Actually guys, Honda is doing just that in some of their engines.  They 
use a prechamber like some diesel engines and those engines are supposed 
to be running at around 17.5 to 1 air/fuel ratio.  The normal is 14.7 to 
1.  The amount of economy isn't tremendous, but it is better than the 
average  animal and the engine controls are longer lived.
