My first restoration attempt.

by jon <jonrev1978@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > May 21, 2008 at 08:17 PM

Greetings All!
I wanted to tell you all about my first forray into restoration,
electronically. I am a little afraid to tell you but I am hoping for
some advise for future projects. I have learned that I need to watch
much more intently.
The radio was a RCA T-60. I got my tubes, caps, and some good advice
from Mark Oppat who was very kind.
As I looked at the schematics I had, one from Riders and one that Mark
sent me. When I found discrepancies in between the schematics and the
chassis I looked for some help. I found a guy who does a lot of
rebuilding of tube type boat anchors and old military stuff, but not
receivers.
Well, I was having trouble with the schematic not matching what I was
seeing in the chassi. We finally came to the conclusion that someone
in the past had made various modifications and changes to the original
design. As it sits now this radio no longer works at all.
I had left it with the guy who was helping me and I am going to pick
it up and check it our for myself one more time. The real kicker in
this is that this radio belongs to a good friend who just wanted it to
listen to the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday night.

I wish I had noticed more quickly that the schematic was not totally
the same as what I was looking at. I wish I had started on a radio
that belonged to me instead of someone else.

If I cannot get this radio to work, which I seriously doubt, I hope to
find a radio to slip into the cabinet. If anyone has a good substitute
or another T-60 let me know so that I can buy it from you and not so
terribly disapoint my friend.
Thanks for the read and for any suggestions. Have a great week! Jon.
