Wot's all this, then?

Going over a Majestic console, I took a voltage reading on
an adjustable cap in the oscillator tank circuit.  Both my
DMM and a Radio Shack analog meter went off-scale, on
the kilovolt settings... both AC and DC.  I connected the
scope and it showed a 200 volt AC swing, with no DC
offset..
    Does RF really have that kind of effect on these meters?
