Crystalac grain filler.

by "Unrevealed Source" <unrevealed_source@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > May 12, 2008 at 09:46 PM

I just finished using it for the first time. The top of a Westinghouse
H-104 is heavily grained, and after stripping and sanding mine, I used
Crystalac to fill the grain.

The big selling point of this product for me was that it dries clear,
which
eliminates color-match problems or the hassle of mixing. Plus it's
waterborne so it cleans up easily and dries quickly. Pretty much the same

process as other grain fillers - wipe it on and into the grain, trowel it
off with a credit card, dry, sand. It's sandable after about an hour,
two
at the most.

It seems to have worked well. I haven't applied lacquer yet, but it looks

smooth and the fingernail test confirms. I had to fill and sand twice to
get all the ****es, and it was a lot more difficult to sand than I
expected.
It's tougher than the wood so you have to be sure to trowel off as much as

possible. Also it does dry pretty quickly so if it's a large area you
need
to do sections.

But in the end it worked pretty well and wasn't all that difficult to use.

Jeff
