Perhaps Mr. Historian "Alan Douglas" can shed some light on this.
The "new" dial scale is marked:

55 -170 (Standard broadcast band)
6-19 (MHz shortwave band)
0-100 (logging scale)
and has printed at the bottom "Crowe  Chicago

Although, I'm certain that the radio is a "home brew" and as such
wasn't set up for the shortwave band. The dial just happened to
be something "handy" to throw together.
