Short Impression: A "how to copy the model sheets" sort of book, of the
kind that's been sold to kids since before I was born.
More advanced artists looking for a book covering the general
aesthetics
of the TF: Animated designs, or for a reference to all the characters in
the
series, will be disappointed. This book covers the five core Autobots,
Megatron and Starscream, showing how to draw each of them in one robot
pose
and one view of the vehicle mode. There's a few other inset pieces, like
Prowl's throwing star, facial closeups on a few characters, and so forth,
but
no humans and no real "theory" discussion. Bog-standard "stick figure to
solids to rough to finished to color" procedure stuff. One useful bit,
though, is a two-page spread showing the relative sizes of the seven
characters.
Amusingly, a "scribble" fill is used on the "finished" color pieces
to
make it look like they were done in colored pencil...strangely precise and
"never goes outside the lines" colored pencil, mind you. But the effort
is
cute.
Anyway, for a six dollar, 32 page book aimed at kiddies, it's not a
bad
deal. But there's enough other reference material out there by now, what
with the cel-comics and so forth, that it's probably not much use for even
intermediate artists.
