Anyone remember when I used to sneak into hasbro's toy fair buiding in
NYC?
I'd cut & shape a Hasbro logo from a random magazine or catalog. slip
the hasbro logo inside a clear case & use a rope string to attach it
to my neck. then I put on a new suit & head for the subway from
brooklyn to manhattan. I'd buy a cheap kodak dispossable camera at
Kmart. then i'd walk 10+ blocks in the cold twoards the hasbro toy
fair building in NYC. Once there,I'd show the fake created badge to
the guy at the front & be allowed inside. I did this for 3-4 years.
for the most part the rooms were set up with inter-linking caves or
caverns. the TF cave would always be next to G.I Joe.
My highlight was being the very first TF internet fan to post pics of
Hasbro toy fair in 1998.
I'll admit seeing all that stuff in person was enough to make any TF
fan wet his pants. perhaps the best part was seeing TM2 Megatron &
TM2 Tigerhawk on display.
If anyone's curious why I stopped going to the Hasbro toy fair.
Here's the reason:
When 9/11 hit NYC,For about 2-3 years the whole NYC was in red alert
mode. I just didn't think it was worth the hassel of getting arrested
& being put up on terroist charges. if caught.
FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW. Hasbro sold there toyfair building to Home
Depot. the hasbro toy fair building that I use to go to in 19997-2001
was located on 5th avenue & west 23rd street. Oddly enough Hone Depot
didn't change much of the inner designs of the inside building
format. most likely due to the building being to old & fear of beams
breaking if heavy inner construction was attempted. It was a real
treat to walk into that NYC home depot & see the inner insides almost
exactly the same.
I think the new Hasbro toyfair buidling is somewhere on Broadway. the
building has more floors & seems in over all better construction
foundation safe.
