REVIEW: War Within Age of Wrath #1

by decepticoncommand@[EMAIL PROTECTED] (Enfilade) Sep 16, 2004 at 09:54 PM

*as always, these reviews are really rotten with SPOILERS* *and are
more like synopsis than reviews...can anyone else out there give
commentary?*

The story begins with the Autobots under Ultra Magnus having won most
of the territory and energon supplies. As a result, the various
splinter factions--including Grimlock's LIghtning Strike Coalition,
Shockwave's Decepticons and Ratbat's Ultracons--are making peace led
by Magnus. But Ultra Magnus is personally bitter at Prime for
throwing himself into "oblivion" along with Megatron, leaving Magnus
to face self-doubt and fear in leading the Autobots without him.

Starscream, on Moon Alpha, has no intent to play nice. He's decided
to take out EVERYONE gathered to make the peace, removing all who can
oppose him. And Motormaster is his very loyal lieutenant.

Slamdance gives a joint broadcast to the Chamber of the Ancients (some
of whom died in the earthquakes of TWW #1 and who have been relpaced
by Eronus, Neo, and Templar.) Grimlock is not impressed--the area is
too large, too hard to defend. And Shockwave's not impressed
either...he tells Magnus to shut up with the speeches of peace, since
he's only acknowledging Autobot superiority of territory, energon
reserves and resources, feeling it is more im****tant the species pool
their reserves to survive rather than die out fighting now. To seal
the deal, the leaders are supposed to donate energy from their core
(HM, NO SPARKS in this one, they've got CORES again) and put it in a
ceremonial orb with a containment field.

Then the Dinobots notice two inbound trans****ts with no identification
that do not respond to hails. Grimlock orders an attack, and gets
Wheeljack to expand that containment field to cover the entire arena.

But Starscream is in the chamber of the ancients, conducting a mass
extermination. Meanwhile, the Stunticons, Battlechargers and the rest
of Starscream's crew are shocked that there are survivors in the
arena....and Prowl, Soundwave, Ravage are all on the attack! Most of
them surrender quickly, but Motormaster has other plans. He attempts
to snipe Magnus, but Grimlock intercedes, taking the shot. Shockwave
and Ratbat fire on Motormaster, but the damage is doen, Grimlock is
down...and it looks like he's going out. (Obviously he's not dead,
but he might be in stasis until the time of the DW G1 series #1
now....)

And if that wasn't bad enough, a huge clone army shows up, surounding
Magnus, Shockwave, and co...with Megatron at their head!
