German Helmet M1940 Single Decal Wehrmacht, Heer
Single Decal German Helmet
Full High Res Photo Version Links Below
This appears to be a Combat German Army (Heer) Wehrmacht helmet. Not a
Paratrooper, Parade, Air Defense or other type. I believe it to be a
Model M1940.
This is a "Single Decal" Helmet. This appears to be rare. There does
not seem to be a former decal on the other side that may have been
worn off. In other words, it doesn't appear to have ever had a second
decal on the other side.
This is a 1940 German Helmet. I have done some attempts at deciphering
the details, but don't know enough to distinguish between Army, etc.
It is Stamped on the inside of the head band liner, "1940." I don't
want to pull it apart because I don't know what I'm doing and may
break it. There is another number ET66 on an inside lip of the helmet
shell. I believe this to be the Size.
If this is the ET66 I think it is, it means that it was made by
Eisenhuttenwerke, Thale, Germany, and that the size is 66cm. I have
been told the size 66 is highly sought after. Why? I have no idea.
Eisenhuttenwerke was the foremost supplier of helmets for the
Wehrmacht. The M1940 was produced using an improved Manganese-silicon
steel.
This numerical/ symbol is also on the inside of the metal Head liner:
66 0 A
58
The "0" maybe symbol and not a letter or number. I cannot say. It
looks odd, like a symbol rather than a number or letter.
The number 4751 are embossed in the rear inside over the owner's name.
I believe this to be the die-stamped foundry "run" number.
The chin strap is black, the newer type, and not the light brown of
Pre-1940's roller buckle types.
Edges are rolled.
The Soldiers name was "Kromnger" or "Kroninger."
There are virtually no dents, dings or other damage except light
surface rust.
Helmets after 1943 bore no decals.

It may look in slightly rough condition, but it is not. The rust is
extremely superficial and no where is it actually eating into the
metal.
