Where do I sell Grandma's US commemorative plate block collection?

by NO_SPAM_TO_dpharris@[EMAIL PROTECTED] (Dennis P. Harris) Sep 26, 2007 at 11:05 PM

My grandmother and great aunt collected mint number plate blocks
of 4 US commemoratives from 1946 into the late 70s, when my great
aunt began saving whole sheets of commemoratives until the early
80s.

I have now inherited these stamps, and I can't get any of our few
serious local collectors interested in paying more than postage
value for them although a some are worth more. So far I have
only cataloged the 4 cent ones, a lot of tedious work that may
not pay off.

I live in a small isolated Alaska town so there are no stamp
dealers or hobby shops that deal in stamps. The local stamp club
has about 5 members, and none are interested.

I hate to use plate blocks of stamps that dealers online are
selling for anywhere from 5 to 20 times the nominal value for
postage if I can sell them somewhere and get value closer to the
sale value, although I realize that dealers will always take a
markup.

Does anyone have any suggestions where I could sell them and make
enough to make the effort to pack and ****p them worthwhile? I'd
really like to get rid of them and make a few bucks.

Thanks.
