Simon Conn had 20 points, a career-high 18 rebounds and a school-record
seven blocked shots to lead Gardner-Webb to a 67-58 overtime win over
Mercer on Monday. The Runnin' Bulldogs (4-2, 2-0 Atlantic Sun
Conference) outscored Mercer 11-2 in overtime to move into first place
in the conference. Mercer jumped ahead at the start as Will Emerson
scored 13 of his game-total 15 points and Jacob Skogen got 10 of his 15
total points to help the Bears to a 34-26 halftime lead. In the second
half, Mercer's Andrew Brown scored all eight of his points in a
five-minute stretch to keep the Bears ahead at 46-41 with 13:29 left in

changed five times before a follow shot by Brian Pfohl put Mercer ahead
54-53 with 3:33 left. Brian Bender hit a 23-foot jumper to give

on free throws with 36.7 seconds left. Gardner-Webb shot a perfect
4-for-4 in overtime, and limited the Bears to a 1-for-7 effort. Bender
also had a double-double for the Bulldogs, with 16 points and 12
rebounds, while Tim Jennings added 10 points.
