Tech Tip: Seeburg KD-200 Tormat/Selector issues....

for the KD200 I found that "H Test (Write in)" gives a suggestion that
the Electric Selector is defective. The test speaks to "Open circuit pin
C7 or defective starting switch" The problem for me is I can't find any
other reference to this 'starting switch'! If they are referring to the
switch in the SPU - that is fine, plus I have traced the circuits
through the RCSU-1, the Electric Selector and the Tormat. All seem
correct resistance and no shorts to ground that I have found so far. I
did try the "L Test" and this resulted in selection 'V1' playing as it
is supposed to - this again says the "Replace Electric Selector (shorted
to ground)" - but no shorts!

years, but this guy has me a bit troubled...I am considering testing the
Electric Selector with my 350VDC power supply to see if there might be
arc over which doesn't show up on a resistance test (no resistance up to
20MR to ground) - but not sure if that will help.

Turns out the problem (not writing in) was a missing top-side solder
connection on the through pin of J515-BLU on the RCSU1/SU1 CODE A
stepper unit. The factory had never soldered this!

This is a 1st generation double sided PCB and it appears the plate
through was not perfect. What happened is Seeburg only soldered the pins
on the bottom side of this board - this machine is serial #208843, my
shop's KD200.22 #208290 had both sides of the critical pins soldered.

Not sure if #208843 was missed in Seeburg's QA checking or if they
simply stopped soldering both sides sometime after #208290...

The pins to check that both sides are soldered are J515-BLU, J521-P, and
J520-N.

Please make a note of this for your KD200 service manual.
