With all of the typing, I forgot one of the best parts of my outing!
All of the lines were long, so this meant that you get to know your
line mates as talking is all you really have time to do. :D While I
was in one line, me and a guy got to talking about Berkman's line
selling out so quickly. He said that he got there at 4:30 that
morning!! He was there for Berkman, more than anybody. I told him
that he was the main reason that I drove 3 hours to get there too, but
missed out. Anyway, I got through the line first, got my jersey
signed by that voucher's list and was on my way to the next table. I
just got going at a pretty good pace when the guy stops me and hands
me one of the items that he got Berkman to sign, a Rawlings baseball
in a display case. To say I was in awe would be an understatement. I
offered to pay him for it, but he said it was no problem. He opened
his case for me to see at least 8 other items in there signed by
Berkman ranging from a jersey to at least three other balls, that I
could make out. I don't know of he was a big fan or a dealer or both,
but he had to have spent at least $120.00 easily, just on Berkman. I
offered to pay for the ball again, but he said no and walked off. I
never did get his name...
